Steven is a Senior Data Scientist and accomplished mixed-methods researcher specialising in education, holding a PhD from the University of Auckland. 

With expertise in R, Shiny, Python, and SQL, Steven is a skilled programmer experienced in managing and analysing large datasets throughout all stages of the research process. His technical skills include data collection, validation, cleaning, statistical analysis, automation, and data visualisation.

Alongside his technical capabilities, Steven has a strong passion for qualitative research methods, design, and effective communication. His versatile skill set has been applied across various projects, including network science, education, and public health. Steven also has a keen interest in identifying practical and sustainable applications of AI, focusing on robust implementation and prioritising data sovereignty.

Before joining Synergia, Steven served as a Research Fellow, developing network models to study COVID-19 transmission and contact patterns. At Synergia, Steven manages data infrastructure pipelines, applies robust statistical methods, and develops customised Shiny applications, equipping organisations with the tools needed to transform data into actionable insights.
